They Keep Coming
So many ideas and so few hours to knit! I am continuing to get ready for the Artisian Fair for my fiancé’s school. My focus is on hats that can be unisex as well as appealing to a diverse crowd. I haven’t made many hats recently so I had forgotten how addictive they are. All I want to do is knit hats! Here are the latest off my needles:
Wool/ Blend from my stash
Caron Simply Soft in Dark Country Blue
Red- Caron 220; Denim Color- Sesia’s River Jeans (cotton)
Caron Simply Soft in Blackberry and Dark Country Blue
Easy Halloween Decoration
Here is another easy DIY project to get you in the holiday spirit. Upcycle an old can and you have a budget friendly piece of Halloween decor.👻
Check out my Snapguide to make this easy Tin Can Black Cat to get you in the Halloween spirit.
Level: Easy (children may need assistance as hot glue is involved)
Materials: black paint, foam shapes, pipe cleaner, hot glue gun, tin can, sharpie.
Time: 35 minutes (accounting for paint drying time)
Halloween Time!
Halloween is 12 days away and the kids at school are getting excited. Since I work with children with language impairments, I like to talk about holidays way in advance. It helps them to have models of sentences and vocabulary ahead of time. This way they are ready to chat with their classmates when the holiday rolls around. This week we are focusing on Halloween creatures. Today, we had fun playing the skeleton game.
Ages: Pre-K- 5th grade.
Materials: The skeleton printable, a printer, and a die
How to Play: I changed some of the rules from the site to include elements of sharing and being okay with loosing (a skill that is hard for many of my kids). Basically on the child’s turn he/she rolls the dice and follows the directions sheet (seen below). The first one to make a whole skeleton is the winner!
Knitting and Football
Football games are a great time to get some knitting in. It just so happens that today my knitting coordinated with the 49ers’ uniforms.
I made the larger piece ( it was supposed to be a sleeveless top) years ago. I never finished it though. I made a bad yarn choice. I used Caron’s Simply Soft and the mix of the acrylic yarn and yarn weight (worsted) didn’t pan out. The piece would have been too thick to wear during the summer. Don’t get me wrong, it is not that I am an acrylic hater, it is just that acrylic is not a very breathable fabric. So I am making some hats out of it. I am knitting them simultaneously as I unravel the top. The white hat will be an infant hat and the red a lacy slouch cap.
The 49ers won today and hopefully my hats end up winners too!
Halloween Swap Goodies!
Hi all! I stumbled upon this Halloween Swap group on Ravelry last month and knew I had to sign up. I love getting things in the mail, especially things that are craft related. This swap was awesome as everyone’s package must include Halloween decor, a hand-crafted item, something crafty, and something yummy.
Here is what I got:
Thanks to my swap buddy for the great package! I am looking forward to making some witch’s brew ;).
(Sorry I won’t post my box of goodies as I just shipped them yesterday and don’t want to ruin the surprise!)
Happy Woolly Hat Day!
The Campaign for Wool has claimed October 9th as Woolly Hat Day. What better way to celebrate than share hats that are in progress?
I am calling this one the Snake Charmer Beanie as the cables look like snakes don’t they? This hat is just a simple 2 stitch cable using a wool/acrylic blend I had in my stash.
I also started another Café au Lait Tam. This is a project for my Halloween partner (group on Ravelry). The swap includes a package of 4 items (Halloween item, self- made item, knitting related item, and something yummy). The due date is October 15 so I better get cracking on assembling my package!
Typical Morning
Love It!
I love when Facebook suggests sites to follow. Last week, it suggested I “like” LoveKnitting.com and boy do I like it. This site is much like KnitPicks, but with a wider variety of brands of yarn (e.g., Malabrigo, Cascade, Plymouth). Another positive is the number of patterns written in foreign languages. Need a pattern in Swedish? They have you covered. So if you have extra time today…CHECK IT OUT! 🙂
